I am very irritable and angry these days. Being inactive and isolated, for several months now, has left me extremely frustrated and blaming my poor health (or anything else) is always easier than actually finding a solution to the problem.
Why do I view frustration as a problem that needs to be overcome? It is an emotion just like happiness and anger and love. So then why are we taught that some emotions are acceptable and even desirable, while others are unacceptable and undesirable?
Maybe I’m looking at this all wrong. What is undesirable is staying frustrated, or staying angry for a prolonged period. Obviously it is not pleasant being frustrated or angry, but these emotions have a function. They point us to the things in our environment that we find bothersome, and trying to overcome these challenges brings us back to a stable emotional state.
